We want to ensure South Australia is a place where excellent and diverse art and culture are made and shared, and creativity is celebrated.

We provide grants to support artists, musicians, organisations and creative projects across South Australia, and are reviewing our grants process to ensure it supports artists, musicians, organisations and creative projects in the best possible way.

Why are we doing this review?

We want our grants programs and processes to align with the State Government’s 10-year cultural policy, A Place to Create (PDF, 7.4 MB)

We committed to reviewing our grants process as an action point in our A Place to Create Delivery Plan 2025-2027 (PDF, 4.3 MB). This action is also a commitment in the Government’s Response to the Artists at Work Taskforce and was developed using feedback from stakeholders across the arts, culture and creative sector.

What is the review looking at?

The review considering:

  • how well current grant programs and processes are working and where improvements can be made
  • the entire grant lifecycle – from application and assessment to acquittal
  • the clarity and accessibility of guidelines and communications
  • experiences of applicants, recipients and assessors.

What’s changing now?

Nothing. All current programs and contestable grants will continue as usual during the review. There will be no immediate changes to funding rounds, guidelines or eligibility.

Who has been consulted?

Public consultation for the CreateSA Grants Review was open on YourSAy from December 2025 to February 2026.

Representatives from a range of stakeholders, art forms, and career stages also participated in workshops facilitated by an independent consultant.

Feedback will directly inform improvements to CreateSA programs and processes. We are considering the consultation insights as we develop appropriate recommendations. As the review progresses, the workshop participants will test the recommendations, which we will continue refining.

What happens next?

At the end of the consultation, we’ll share what we’ve learned and what decisions we’ve made. Any changes will be communicated well in advance.
