From 2022, the MDO implemented the South Australian Government’s $10 million, See It LIVE Election Commitment.
This has stimulated live music activity across the state with vouchers and event grants aimed at getting South Australian musicians back on local stages, venue improvement grants to enhance audience experience, initiatives such as mental health support, an events cancellation fund, and the establishment of the Premier’s Live Music Advisory Council.
Currently in South Australia;
Around 90% of businesses in South Australia are small and family businesses. This is reflected in South Australia’s music industry, which according to APRA AMCOS consists of: 7000 songwriters, 400 venues and of that, approximately 59 dedicated live music venues across the state.
Supporting this core group are a suite of businesses within the supply chain that include record labels, event promoters, tour managers, artist managers, recording studios and publicists.
Additionally, South Australia has always been a thriving destination for festivals, with the likes of WOMADelaide, Spin Off and the regionally-based Handpicked Festival driving tourism and contributing to the vibrancy of the city’s music slate.
Through its latest three-year plan, the MDO is aiming to ensure the sector is well positioned to capitalise on the predicted global trajectory and to leverage alignments with Music Australia to foster the growth of South Australia’s contemporary original music industry.
