In March 2026, five young South Australians travelled to Canberra to represent South Australia’s music sector as part of work contributing to The Push’s National Plan for Young Australians and Music.
CreateSA provided funding through the Music Development Office to facilitate the participation of the South Australian musicians, with on‑ground mentoring and support provided by Carclew throughout the visit. The opportunity enabled participants to engage with peers, industry representatives and policymakers, and to contribute local perspectives to national discussions shaping the future of music.
During the visit, participants took part in a range of professional development and engagement activities at Parliament House, including an informal music session with the Federal Arts Minister, Tony Burke MP.
Led by The Push, the National Plan for Young Australians and Music is a 10‑year strategy (2026–2036) focused on improving equitable access to music for young people across Australia. The plan seeks to address barriers to participation across live music, education and industry pathways, recognising that access and opportunity can vary depending on location and circumstances.
Ensuring young South Australian voices were represented in the development and launch of the plan was an important contribution to the national co‑design process. Initiatives such as this support young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills and engage meaningfully with policy and industry environments, strengthening pathways for the next generation of musicians.
