The State Library of South Australia has launched the inaugural Deane Miller Fellowship, a new initiative designed to support artists, writers, researchers and creatives to develop original work inspired by the Library’s collections.

The Fellowship is presented by the State Library and generously supported by the Friends of the State Library of South Australia.

Valued at $15,000, the Fellowship will provide financial support, access to Library collections and expertise, workspace opportunities, and assistance from Library staff to help bring creative projects to life. Fellows will also have opportunities to share their work through public presentations and events.

The Fellowship honours the legacy of South Australian horticulturalist and cultural supporter Graham Deane Miller (1929–2018), whose lifelong interest in history, culture and the arts inspired the creation of the program.

Open to Australian residents, the Fellowship encourages proposals that engage deeply with the State Library’s collections, offer fresh perspectives on South Australian stories, and deliver clear public outcomes. Applications are welcomed from individuals and small collaborative teams working across a broad range of creative disciplines.

Applications close at 5pm on 31 July 2026. The successful recipient will be announced in October 2026, with the Fellowship running over a 12-month period.
