Dame Ruby Litchfield – namesake of the Ruby Awards – once said, “I don’t seek glory, I just do things. If I’ve got a challenge I make a success of it.” Inspired by this spirit, Lily Morin has been selected as the designer of this year’s hand-blown glass Ruby Award winner trophies.

Lily Morin, South Australian glass artist and designer.

Lily is a South Australian glass artist and designer whose practice explores the space between art, design and utility. Growing up in the Adelaide Hills, she draws inspiration from the landscapes of Kaurna Country and the natural world.

Currently a First Year Associate in JamFactory’s Glass Studio, Lily is developing her technical skills and artistic practice through hands-on making, experimentation and collaboration with other emerging artists and designers.

Working primarily with blown glass, she combines traditional glassmaking techniques with industrial materials, creating pieces that contrast refined craftsmanship with raw, tactile surfaces.

For the Ruby Awards, Lily’s design takes inspiration from a Scandinavian style of glassmaking, which includes a slender bubble of colour within thick glass, and blends it with murrini, a patterned Venetian glassmaking technique. The design brings together techniques from different glassmaking cultures, which glassblowers continue to practise today.

Designing the trophies has given Lily the opportunity to put her skills into practice on a project with a very special purpose. The JamFactory glass associates will work together to create the 12 unique pieces that will mark the achievements of South Australia’s creative community.

The annual Ruby Awards commission gives JamFactory glass associates a chance to develop their practice in hands-on exploration of glass and the possibilities of the medium.

The Ruby Awards are the only government-led annual awards for the creative sector in Australia, recognising creative excellence, innovation, collaboration, leadership and community impact across South Australia.

The 2026 Ruby Award winners will be announced at the annual awards evening on Friday 13 November.
