Australian Dance Theatre, supported by CreateSA
In August 2025, CreateSA supported Australian Dance Theatre’s regional tour of Marrow, bringing professional contemporary dance to Whyalla and Port Lincoln — communities that rarely experience large‑scale contemporary performance or direct engagement with professional artists.
Across the tour, 115 students, teachers and community members participated in workshops and professional learning activities, providing hands‑on access to professional contemporary dance for regional schools and communities. The program supported skills development, creative confidence and inspiration for young people and educators.
The company performed Marrow at the Nautilus Arts Centre in Port Lincoln, providing local audiences with the opportunity to experience a major work by one of Australia’s leading contemporary dance companies in their own community.

Why this matters
For regional communities, access to professional contemporary dance is often limited by distance and cost. This tour helped reduce these barriers, enabling young people to learn directly from professional artists and experience high‑quality live performance close to home.
We rarely get opportunities like this for both students to learn from professional dancers and company, but also to view professional, live dance performances. The students loved every minute of it and have been non‑stop raving about it. The company has definitely inspired them.

2025 was Australian Dance Theatre’s 60th anniversary. To celebrate, we wanted our work to reach as many people as possible and to share our work with the many communities who have supported us throughout our history. We’re incredibly grateful to CreateSA for supporting us to tour regionally, run workshops and connect with people from all over the state.
